There are numerous tourist places to visit in Leh Ladakh, considered to be amongst the most beautiful, serene and blissful destinations in the world. With rivers like the Indus, Zanskar and Shyok cascading here, and the Himalayas acting as its backdrop, Leh is a treasure trove of mesmerising landscapes, dramatic natural views and vibrancy. Amongst the countless Leh tourist attractions is the famous Khardung La Pass, a magnetic hill that defies gravity. If you are seeking some peace and solace, visit the Shanti Stupa here, or head over to Kargil to pay your respects to the brave soldiers of the country. Or visit the Pangong Lake and soak in stunning views of the mountains and cloudy skies in the crystal-clear brackish waters of the lake. Due to the strong influence of Tibetan Buddhism, Leh is also known as Little Tibet or the Land of Lamas. Barren mountains with brightly painted gompas (or monasteries), fluttering prayer flags, rocky ridges, tiny settlements and the Indus River add to the overall charm of the region.
Itinerary
The New Delhi to Leh flight is an experience by itself, It follows air traffic service (ATS) route W-39 between 77 and 78 degrees of longitude, covering an aerial distance of about 856 km. The aircraft flies over green foothills of the Himalayas, snow-capped peaks, glaciers, lakes, windswept valleys dotted with hamlets and dun landscape offering a visual delight. Remember to book a window seat to enjoy the views. Our representative will welcome you at The Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport, Leh & transfer to the Hotel. After a leisurely breakfast, visit Mulbek Chamba, Lamayuru monastery, drive towards the confluence of Indus & Zanskar; en-route witness the gravity-defying phenomenon of the Magnetic Hill and gawk at amazing views of the airport from Spituk Monastery. Post a leisurely breakfast, we drive north to Nubra Valley, also known as the valley of flowers, via the famous Khardungla (17,852 ft.) which was for a very long time called the highest motorable road in the world. It is the primary gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys, Warila (17,427 ft.) being the secondary gateway. Hunder is a vast expanse of green with crystal clear glacial streams crisscrossing the cultivable land abound with apricots, walnuts, almonds, apples and various fruits and flowers. Arrive at the resort and rest for some time. The Sand dunes of Nubra is home to the double-humped Bactrian camels. Visit the Hunder sand dunes in the evening to enjoy an amazing sunset. Embark on a picturesque drive from Hunder, visiting the Majestic Deskit Monastery en route to Pangong Tso, an endorheic lake in the Changthang region situated at a height of 4,350 m. The lake is 134 km long and extends from India to China covering 604 sq. km. During winter the lake freezes solid, despite being saline water. The journey is very pleasant with the road meandering alongside Shayok river, though there are some rough patches and water crossing which can be a bit of a challenge. After crossing Agham & Durbuk, we will reach Changthang, a region that is quite popular for its scenic beauty, lakes, wildlife and is home of the Changpa tribe, a nomadic and pastoral community. Spend a starlit night at the retreat, enjoying the surreal views of the milky way like a highway. Overnight at Pangong | Pro Tip: Leave early to avoid getting stuck at water crossings.
Enjoy a picturesque sunrise at Pangong Tso, it is almost meditative to look at the changing colours of the lake and the surrounding landscape. Pangong Tso is in Changthang, a high altitude plateau. Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary is home to many rare species of flora and fauna and the nomads roam the pastures with their herds of cattle. The famous Pashmina goat is found here in abundance. After your breakfast
drive back to Leh, crossing Chang La (17,590 ft.), a high altitude pass, It will leave you breathless, with the sheer beauty and altitude. A quick stop at The Thiksey Monastery, Shey Palace and Rancho School before Leh. Overnight at Leh | Pro Tip: Eat light and keep some chocolates handy.
